What came first — astronomy or astrology? What’s the relationship? In this 90-minute class, we explore the astronomical underpinnings of astrology. For example, why is the MC, or Midheaven, a prominent point in the natal chart, and thus in a person’s life? What are the nodes of the Moon? — not just astrologically (often denoting life purpose), but scientifically? Physically? Do other planets have nodes? What do they mean? What is the heliocentric chart as opposed to the geocentric chart which we are used to seeing? What is the ascendant and why is it so important? Why does the Moon hold its significations (hint — it’s the closest astronomical body to us)?
In this class, we begin to understand how just looking at, and appreciating, the night sky, is fundamental to astrology. We’ll spend a few minutes outside to ground ourselves in the sky and find some of the key points of the astrological chart. Though we will intellectualize, we will also spend some time feeling into the night sky. My hope is that you walk away feeling more in tune with the stars and planets.
